Yorkshire Tykes

The Yorkshire Tykes welcomes young ringers from towers across the whole of Yorkshire. We are a friendly, sociable group who usually meet on the 3rd Sunday afternoons of each month. Our practices are run by the young ringers themselves, supervised by DBS checked adult ringers. We visit towers right across Yorkshire so there is plenty of travelling involved and a wide variety of towers including at least one visit per year to York Minster. Some months quarter peals are also organised to encourage everyone to improve their ringing and conducting skills.

We always try to attend the RWNYC and have been particularly successful in the 8 bell method ringing section, winning the competition in 2014, 2017, 2024 and 2025. In recent years we have entered three teams each year to include 6 bell method ringing and call changes depending on the range of abilities of our ringers.

In 2023, 2024 and 2025 we entered the White Rose 12 bell contest, acting as hosts at Bradford Cathedral in 2025. This helps our ringers gain confidence ringing on higher numbers of bells. We are assisted by some former Tykes at this event.

Finally, we like to take trips outside of Yorkshire to ring at ““special”” towers. In August 2025 we visited Liverpool to ring at Pierhead and Liverpool Cathedral where all our ringers could ring on 12 bells and some rang the 82cwt tenor.
